SMS Signup Reminder - How It Works

When a customer texts your signup keyword (such as JOIN) to your Birthday Club phone number, they receive an SMS with a link to complete their registration by providing their email and other details.

If they don’t tap the link, Birthday Club automatically sends a friendly reminder to complete their signup.

1. How It Works

Step 1: Customer Texts Your Keyword

A customer texts your signup keyword to your club’s phone number.

They immediately receive a welcome SMS containing their personalized signup link.

Step 2: Automatic Reminder

If the customer has not completed their registration within 1 hour, within the next hour Birthday Club sends a single reminder SMS within the next hour with a fresh link to finish signing up.


2. What Triggers a Reminder?

A reminder is sent if:

  • The customer texted your keyword and received the initial link
  • They have not completed the email collection form
  • They have not verified their account or agreed to the terms and conditions
  • At least 1 hour has passed since their first message

Duplicate Prevention:

To avoid overwhelming customers, Birthday Club includes built-in protection:

  • Only one reminder per customer
  • Even if they text additional keywords or attempt to sign up again, no second reminder is sent

3. The Reminder Message

The reminder uses your custom message set in SMS Messages > Remind Subscribe Email. If you haven't set a custom message, the default is:

"Friendly reminder from: |Name|. Tap |lwidget_url| to complete your signup & start getting rewards. Rep STOP to unsubscribe. Msg&Data Rates May Apply"

Available Placeholders

You can customize your reminder message using these placeholders:

  • |name|      – Your club's SMS name (or club name if SMS name isn't set)
  • |widget_url|      – The signup link (automatically generated)
  • |long_code|      – Your club's phone number

4. Timing

  • Runs hourly – The system checks for incomplete signups every hour
  • 24-hour window – Only customers who signed up in the last 24 hours are processes

5. FAQ

Q: Can I turn off reminders? A: Contact support to disable reminders for your club.

Q: Can I change the reminder message? A: Yes! Go to your SMS Messages settings and edit the "Remind Subscribe Email" field.

Q: Will customers get multiple reminders? A: No. Each customer receives at most one reminder.

Q: What if the customer already completed signup? A: They won't receive a reminder. The system only sends reminders to customers who haven't finished registering.
